Article by: Tommy Bar Av - as published in the Facebook group - Supertools - tools for superhumanity

This time, Supertools is particularly significant: book's reading. How can you read 20 books a year with a simple gesture? What is the most effective way to consume books today? What important life lessons have I learned from all the productivity books I've read? And also a surprise: Link is affiliated with The 12 recommended books of Supertools for 2019 (Link to the library in the first comment) >> https://barav.co/supertools-books

What I learned from reading 50 books on productivity and personal development

This productivity No the answer. Being more productive does not necessarily mean that meaningful work is being done. It probably means I'm living according to someone else's priorities. The way to really achieve success is actually to do fewer things, but better. Create enough time with yourself so that you can decide what things are really important to you in life, and prioritize all the time. Better insight into what really matters to you provides insight into what doesn't.

To say "no" a lot more". Or in other words - if you don't prioritize your life, someone else will prioritize it for you. A lot of the books I've read talk about creating a discipline of decisions and prioritization. To be proactive about the way we make decisions and to say "no" a lot more. how much more If the answer is not "and how else!" it's probably not. The mindset that needs to enter instead is productivity. Instead of reacting to things after they happen, take responsibility for making the things you want happen.

The best way to win an argument is to avoid it in the first place. In 90% sometimes arguments don't end well for either side. Usually, both sides create confidence that they are even more right after an argument. It is very rare that an argument actually comes to a solution, but most people just feed off the argument itself and nothing changes. Therefore, the conclusion - it is better to avoid arguments in the first place.

Don't sacrifice your sleep to meet a deadline. Sleep is significantly more important than we think. A long sleep and a good laugh are the two best medicines for everything. Conversely, lack of sleep can significantly impair focus and productivity.

But more than that, can lead to serious diseases such as obesity, depression and serious diseases. There are several key things that affect our sleep. The time we sleep, exposure to natural light, and non-exposure to unnatural light.

The recommendation is to sleep between 7-8 hours every night, but what is even more surprising is that even if you sleep the recommended number of hours but not between 22:00-02:00 at night, the body can still feel tired and weak, as if you haven't woken up yet.

In addition, according to studies, natural exposure to sunlight has a positive effect on sleep and vice versa. Finally, make sure that there are no lights from electronic devices in your bedroom. Even the smallest light from the air conditioner's bulb can significantly impair your sleep.

Habits do not limit freedom, they create it. The best habit that can be inculcated is the habit of "sharpening the saw". Or in other words - to optimize ourselves.

Each person has 4 different dimensions that he needs to consistently check that they are optimized: the physical dimension, the spiritual dimension, the mental dimension and the social/emotional dimension. The best investment you can make in life is an investment in ourselves. The best way to start a new habit is to take the first step. Not just the first time - but every time.

Do things that take less than 2 minutes - immediately. The best way to get into work mode is to start solving small problems and feel a sense of victory. Therefore, once we have made a list of things we want to do today, if there are things there that take less than 2 minutes, they should be done immediately and get rid of them as quickly as possible. This is true for both emails and everyday tasks.

Eat more berries. Sorry to sound a bit like Odette, but eating has more of an effect on our productivity than we think. The things we put in our bodies define us. A diet based on plant foods is the healthiest. Berries of all colors are considered the healthiest food in the world and are known to prevent diseases.

Time is the most important resource in the world. If you are like most people, you have a list of the most important things to you such as relationships, health, friends, money and of course - time. But how much do we really value our time above all else?

While many things are replaceable, you can't get back lost time. You can't spend it and then earn it back. You can't buy time. It cannot be borrowed on the black market. Therefore - the most important thing that needs to be implemented at the tool level is to be a master of your calendar. Do Time Blocking on tasks, habits and things you need to complete, before someone else takes that time from you.
*
do one thing at a time. Most of the work we experience on a daily basis is shallow work. Because it's just easier. But in the new world we have to deal with complex tasks, and do them in less time. People who will succeed in this world will have to consolidate the ability of deep work. Work on one thing without distractions. Finish it and only then move on to the next thing. This means no phones on the table, no WhatsApp, no Facebook - just the thing you're supposed to be doing right now. A space must be created that will help you enter a state of deep work.
*
Turn off notifications. If there is one thing that was repeated in almost all the books I read it was the following. In order to really succeed in doing something meaningful in this life - we need to turn off most, if not all, of the notifications on our phone. Put it on silent mode, go from app to app and ask yourself: "Do I really need the notification I'm getting from it."

what do you say? What are the best books you've read on productivity and why?
